University of New Mexico redshirt freshman women’s soccer player Quincy Slora has gotten a head start on the 2014 season by winning a national championship.

Quincy SloraSlora, who hails from Stafford, Va., helped Virginia’s VSA Heat Blue soccer team to the U19 girls national championship on Saturday night in Boyds, Md.

VSA Heat Blue defeated defending champion Team Chicago Academy-Botafoga 1-0 in a rematch of the 2013 U18 title match.

“It feels great to be national champions,” VSA Heat Blue coach Steve Smith told soccerwire.com. “Since last year we wanted to get back to having this opportunity, so it feels incredible, especially since it’s our last year getting to play together.”

Slora is listed as a forward on the team. She and the rest of her University of New Mexico women’s soccer teammates will be back at UNM starting fall camp on Aug. 6 in preparation for the team’s season opener Aug. 22 at Texas Tech.

The Lobos’ home opener is Sept. 12 against Loyola-Chicago at 7 p.m. For ticket information, click here.
