Williams Leads Lobos to 2-1 Victory Over Oklahoma

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.---The University of New Mexico women's soccer team defeated Oklahoma 2-1 Friday night as the squad hosted "Stuff the Stadium" at the UNM Soccer Complex. Senior Jennifer Williams rediscovered her offensive streak in front of a season-high 2,696 fans, scoring both goals for the Lobos.

UNM paced the match early, scoring late in the 11th minute as Williams received a pass from Natalie Jenks, and beat the keeper in the box. New Mexico led 1-0 entering the half.

Oklahoma scored the evening point with 11 minutes of action remaining in the game as Sooner midfielder Dria Hampton collected a deflected ball in the box and managed to chip a ball past Lobo keeper Kelli Cornell.

Minutes later, Williams received a long pass from senior Jael Fanning and secured the victory for the Lobos, finding the back of the net in the 84th minute.

With the win, the Lobos improved to 5-4-2 on the season and Oklahoma fell to 5-6-0.

Williams led the squad with five shots, four of which came on goal. The Lobos outshot the Sooners 14-11 during the game and 8-2 in the second half.

Cornell tallied five saves between the posts, all of which came in the first 45 minutes of action. The Lobo defense limited Oklahoma to two shots in the second half.

The Lobos travel to New Mexico State on Sunday as they take on the Aggies at 1 p.m. in Las Cruces, N.M. It is the final non-conference game remaining on the slate for New Mexico.
