Final Stats

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - After three days of competition, the Lobo swimming and diving team can go into the winter break with big smiles on their faces as they claimed the title at the UNLV Invitational scoring 987.5 points. University of the Pacific came in second with 811.5 points while the hosting UNLV Rebels were third with a total of 750 points.

The third and final day saw a school record lowered by Julia Carroll in the 200 yard backstroke. The junior who hails from Aurora, Ill., swam the event in 1:59.77. The previous best also belonged to Carroll, who swam a time of 2:00.98 at the 2012 Mountain West Championships.

The first event of the day was the 1,650 yard freestyle which was taken by Jessica Heim of UNLV with a time of 17:03.13; Monica Dudley was second after touching the wall in 17:08.74. Taylor McGregor and Ally Davis were third and fourth clocking times of 17:46.75 and 17:55.43, respectively.

In the 100 yard freestyle, Marissa Campbell was just shy of lowering her own record in that event by ten one-hundredths of a second. The current record time is 50.44; Campbell swam the event in Las Vegas in 50.54.

The 400 yard free relay record was also close to being broken, but the relay team of Campbell, Jorgi Hobson, Shayla King and Heidi Zeiger fell just short. They swam the event in 3:26.41, 0.62 seconds off of the 3:25.79 record set at the Mountain West Championships earlier this year.

In the diving end of the pool, Michole Timm, the only active Lobo diver competing, was able to sweep both boards. Off the 1 meter, she tallied a score of 314.40, 6.45 points better than Maraea Skeen of UNLV who placed second.

Off the 3 meter, Timm repeated the feat after scoring 278.05 points. Skeen came in second once again with a tally of 261.40.

The Lobos will stay in Las Vegas for another three days for training purposes before going their separate ways for the Holiday break. Competition will resume on Jan. 12, 2013 when New Mexico hosts Grand Canyon for Senior Day.
