COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Senior Marissa Campbell has been named Mountain West Diver of the Week, for meets contested from Dec. 3-18, as announced by the conference office. This is the first time during Campbell's career that she has earned the award.
The native of Albuquerque, N.M. was part of two relay teams who broke schools records this past weekend at the UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. Campbell swam the first leg of the 200 yard medley relay team who posted a winning time of 1:42.25, beating last year's record-setting time of 1:42.54. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, she swam the second leg for the Lobos with an event winning time of 1:33.40; the time also bested the previous record of 1:33.66 set during the 2011-12 season.
As an individual, the graduate of Manzano High School also set a record in the 100 backstroke. Her time of 54.89 lowered the previous record of 54.99 that was set by Campbell during her freshman year in 2009.
Up next for UNM is the last home event of the season taking place on Jan. 12 when the Lobos host Grand Canyon for Senior Day. Campbell will be one of six seniors honored.
