ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico’s swimming and diving team showed their strength in the water this season and have had impressive performances academically as well.
The College Swimming Coaches Association of America announced the 2013 Fall CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams. This program recognizes swimming and diving teams in the fall and spring semester who qualify with a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
The Lobos were among the 2013 CSCAA Fall Scholar All-America Team Honorees as they ranked 19th in the nation for Division 1 universities with an overall team grade point average of 3.45.
“We’ve had great success in the water this year breaking 17 records and finishing the highest we’ve ever finished in the Mountain West Championships. However, our girls have been working hard to be in the top 20 in the classrooms of the nation,” Head Coach Kunio Kono says.
He includes, “Our young girls are committed in the water and in the classroom. I’m so proud of our swimmers and divers.”
The school year and season is not yet over for New Mexico. It is expected that the Lobos will continue to be successful in both for the time to come.
