TEMPE, Ariz. -- University of New Mexico junior Deanna Young made a strong return to action, winning the triple jump with a mark of 41-07.75 (12.69m) at Arizona State's Baldy Castillo Invitational on Saturday. Young, who redshirted the 2009 outdoor and 2010 indoor seasons, bested the field by more than two feet. The Albuquerque Highland product is currently second on the early season national rankings in the triple jump.

Young was one a handful of UNM women who traveled to Tempe for the outdoor tune-up. The rest of the team opens their spring season in full next weekend with split squad action at Stanford (distance runners) and UTEP (sprinters, jumpers, throwers).
