New Mexico track and field standout Lee Emanuel came in 3rd in the 1500m at the Oregon Relays Friday with a time of 3:38.79. The time is just shy of his career-best (3:37.25) in the event. Emanuel led for most of the race until about the last 500 meters where Oregon's Andrew Wheating passed Emanuel to claim first place (3:37.83). Wheating is a national champion in the event and a Beijing Olympian.

Emanuel's time is currently the second fastest time in the country.

Several of the other distance runners will compete Saturday in the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Stanford.

New Mexico's sprinters, jumpers and throwers will be at home for the 20th Don Kirby Memorial Invitational beginning at 10 a.m.
