New Mexico's Deanna Young has been named Mountain West Conference Athlete of the Week for her performance in the triple jump at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas this past Saturday. Young jumped a 43-10.75 to break New Mexico's 20-year old school record in the event. Lavern Clarke, who happens to be Young's old coach, set the previous record of 43-10.50 in 1990.

The Albuquerque native moved into fourth place on the MWC all-time list in the event and currently holds the No. 1 spot in the country for the 2010 outdoor season.

Four out of Young's six jumps were longer than the existing school record and only one did not enter into New Mexico's all-time top ten performance list in the event.
