Fort Worth, Texas- Sprinters, jumpers and throwers from the University of New Mexico track and field team competed today at the TCU Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas. Several athletes end with top performances along with achieving new personal bests in their respective events.
Freshman Marin Schweigert finished first in the high jump with a mark of 5-05.1 (1.68m). The mark passes her jump at the UTEP Invitational earlier this month where she hit a 5-03.75.
Also finishing in the top three of their respective events or setting new PR's were:
Sophomore Thomas Trujillo finished 3rd in the 200m dash with a time of 22.17 and 6th overall
Junior Deanna Young jumped a 19-03.50 (5.88m) in the long jump to finish 3rd
Junior Kyle Walker (15-7) and sophomore Amber Menke (11-9.75) both finished first in the pole vault
Senior Briana Paxton finished second in the discuss with a mark of 149-04 (45.51m)
Senior Sarah Swartwood finished third in the hammer throw with a mark of 150-09 (45.94m)
Senior Tami Williams took the forth spot in the hammer throw with a mark of 145-04 (44.30m)
Freshman De'Vron Walker finished third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.98
Freshman Shirley Pitts ran a time of 56.19 in the 400m dash, good for a third place finish
Freshman Raffi Cote finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.36
The track and field team will be back in action April 22 in Berkeley, Calif. for the Brutus Hamilton Invitational.
