ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - University of New Mexico freshman Richard York capped a sensational weekend with a school record score of 5,294 in his collegiate heptathlon debut. York led all collegians with a second place finish, trailing only former Arizona standout and two-time NCAA decathlon champion Jake Arnold (5,743). York missed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the seven-event competition by less than 100 points.

York finished among the top three in the 60 meters, 60-meter hurdles, long jump, and high jump to surpass Mark Johnson's 2004 record by 31 points.

Junior Brian Wilson also enjoyed a solid outing in the heptathlon, finishing ninth with a personal record score of 4,752 (fifth all-time at UNM). Senior Jeremy Lee also finished strong in his first collegiate multi-event competition (19th, 4,216). The Kent, Wash. product is competing in his first collegiate season after overcoming a major motorcycle injury in 2008.

Earlier in the day, Ohio State transfer Lamaar Thomas also enjoyed a strong Lobo debut. Thomas opened with a time of 6.94 in the 60-meter prelims and went on to finish sixth in the finals with a time of 6.89 - good for No. 5 on the UNM all-time performers list.

A trio of Lobos were also in action in South Bend, Ind. at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational.

Redshirt freshman Ross Millington clocked a lifetime best of 4:02.02 to finish fifth in the signature Meyo Mile - the same race in which teammate Lee Emanuel clocked the Lobos' first sub four-minute mile last year. Millington's time was good for third on the Lobos' all-time performers list.

UNM will send a large group of distance runners to the University of Washington Invitational next week and returns home in two weeks for the Mountain West Conference Championships (Feb. 26-27).
