Lobos Scoreless In Game One With Broncos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – In the first game of the University of New Mexico softball team’s final conference series of the season, Boise State kept the Lobos off balance and held them to only four hits for the game as the Lobos suffered a 7-0 loss on Friday afternoon.

Boise State scored its runs early, scoring two in the first, one in the second and capped its scoring with four runs in the third.

Jordan Sjostrand led the Lobos’ offense with two hits. Her first hit, which was also the Lobos’ first hit of the game, came in the fifth inning. She led off with a single to left field. Her second hit of the game came in the seventh inning, a single up the middle with one out.

Brandi Heimburg and Michala Erickson had the other two hits for New Mexico. Heimburg led off the sixth inning with a single up the middle and Erickson followed Sjostrand’s second hit in the seventh with a bunt-for-base-hit, advancing Sjostrand to second.

Tess McPherson started in the circle for New Mexico and took the loss, dropping to 1-9 on the season. She allowed four runs off six hits while walking three and striking out two. Lisa Rodrigues came in to relieve McPherson in the third inning and allowed three runs off four hits while walking three and striking out three. Rodrigues held the Broncos scoreless in the final four inning.

New Mexico drops to 16-34 on the season and 7-15 in the Mountain West conference. Boise State improves to 28-19 overall and 12-7 in league play. The two will matchup tomorrow for the second game of the series at 3 p.m. MT.
