TUCSON, Ariz.--The University of New Mexico softball team ended day one of the Arizona Fall Classic with a 5-5 draw against Pima Community College and a 10-0 rout of Cypress College.

The Lobos were the first to put runs on the scoreboard in game one on Friday evening against the Pima Aztecs. Kaity Ingram singled to shortstop and was advanced to second base on a Kerry Hodgins sacrifice bunt. Stefanie Carramusa stepped up to the plate and hit a home run down the left field line, making it 2-0 in favor of New Mexico in the first inning.

Pima's Jaqueline Deen was able to make it around the bases in the top of the third inning, making it 2-1. A two-run homer by Jessica Garcia in the bottom of the inning gave the Lobos a 4-1 advantage heading in to the fourth.

The Aztecs responded by scoring two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth, all the while holding the Lobos hitless and making it a 4-4 tie game heading into the sixth.

New Mexico's defense held off Pima's attempt at a run in the top of the inning and the Lobo offense was able to take advantage of an Aztec error to score one run, pulling ahead 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth.

Again, Pima had an answer for the Lobos. With one out, Nicole Rascon singled and then advanced to second on a fielder's choice. The Aztec's Jessica Schneider hit a deep single to right, allowing Rascon to cross home and tie the game at 5 apiece. Pima's Shawna Comeaux grounded out to end the inning.

New Mexico found itself in great scoring positing at the top of the seventh as newcomer Adrianna Correa--pinch hitting and leading off--hit a triple down the right field baseline. The Lobos weren't able to bring Correa `round, however, and the game ended in a tie.

Kari Gutierrez got the start for the Lobos. The junior threw six innings, striking out six. Carrie Sheehan threw the final inning.

Garcia was 2-for-3 on the game, hitting a home run and a single.

"The first game we didn't have our usual intensity," said Lobo head coach Erica Beach. "We didn't do all the little things we've been working on. In the second game, we got our passion back. We had great pitching, defense and our lineup performed on offense. It was a true team win."

New Mexico faced Cypress College for its second game. The Lobos defeated the Chargers, 10-0 as Carrie Sheehan threw a one-hitter. Also aiding in the New Mexico victory was a series of back-to-back-to-back home runs by Garcia--her second of evening, Carramusa and Jessica Lujan Dresslar. Carramusa also had another home run against Cypress--a total of three on the night.

The Lobos face host Arizona tomorrow evening at 5:30 p.m. The Wildcats defeated Phoenix College, 6-2, on Friday.
