COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico junior third baseman Stefanie Carramusa has been named Mountain West Softball Player of the Week for games through February 26. This is the second career MW weekly accolade for Carramusa and the third for the Lobos this season.
Carramusa, a 5-4 junior from Tucson, Ariz., posted a .421 batting average over the weekend while helping No. 24 New Mexico to a 4-1 record at the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.
She registered at least one hit in four of the five contests, driving in seven runs and scoring five more while going 8-for-19 at the plate over the five-game span. In Thursday's tournament-opening win over No. 16/14 Texas A&M, she hit two sixth-inning home runs, including a grand slam, as part of a nine-run frame that put UNM up, 15-3.
The Lobos held the Aggies scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to become the first team since 2010 to post a run-rule victory over Texas A&M. Carramusa finished the game 4-for-5 with one double, two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored.
Later that day, she went 1-for-3 with two walks and one run scored in a 10-6 win over Oregon State.
After going without a hit in Friday's 5-4 victory against Cal State Fullerton, Carramussa went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run scored and one walk in a 7-5 triumph over UC Davis on Saturday.
She closed out tournament play with a 1-for-4 effort at the plate in Sunday's 4-2 loss to Cal Poly.
Carramusa finished the weekend with slugging and on-base percentages of .789 and .500, respectively, while recording four putouts, eight assists and one error from her third base position.
