STARKVILLE, Miss. - New Mexico softball finished 5-0 last weekend at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., including a 7-6 come-from-behind victory over preseason No. 11/16 Oregon on Feb. 10. The success over the weekend has garnered the Lobos some much-deserved attention and landed them 12 votes on the USAToday/National Fastpitch Coaches Association DI Top 25 Poll.

No Mountain West teams are ranked in this week's top 25, and New Mexico is the only conference affiliate that is receiving votes.

"This is a great stride forward towards our ultimate goal," Lobo head coach Erica Beach said. "We had a great weekend, but now we are focused on our consistency as a team and working toward another successful weekend with the Lobo Classic here at home."

In addition to defeating Oregon (currently No. 19 in this week's poll), New Mexico topped Western Michigan 5-4 on Feb. 10. The Lobos continued on Feb. 11, beating Idaho State 9-8 and routing Northwestern 13-5. New Mexico wrapped up the weekend on Feb. 12 with a 5-3 victory over Texas State.

The Lobos hit .321 on the weekend, scoring 39 runs on 43 hits. Five UNM players combined for 10 home runs - Jessica Lujan-Dresslar (1), Chelsea Anaya (2--including one grand slam), Stefanie Carramusa (2), Shenise Cox (2) and Jessica Garcia (3).

Kaela DeBroeck got the wins against Oregon, Western Michigan, Idaho State and Texas State while freshman Carrie Sheehan picked up the victory over Northwestern.

DeBroeck's ERA sits at .489 and Sheehan's is 6.46.

The Lobos open home play this weekend with the Lobo Classic, the first of two home tournaments UNM will host this year.

The Lobo Classic will include a dozen games between Friday, Feb. 17 and Sunday, Feb. 19 and features Bryant, Central Arkansas, New Mexico, Northern Colorado and Purdue.

New Mexico faces Central Arkansas at 5 p.m. and Bryant at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17.
