SAN JOSE, Calif. – The University of New Mexico softball team collected only three hits and were scoreless in the final game of the three game series with San José State 5-0 on Sunday afternoon at SJSU Field.

The Lobos’ starting pitcher Tess McPherson held the Spartans scoreless through the first three innings but the Spartans pushed a two runs across in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Lobos changed pitcher’s to Lauren Soles.

Soles pitch a scoreless fifth inning but the Spartans adjusted and scored three runs to cap their scoring for the game. Carrie Sheehan came in the circle for the Lobos with two outs and retired the final batter without allowing a run.

The Lobos offense had a hard time getting into their groove through the first five innings. They had an opportunity in the six with Brandi Heimburg in scoring position at second after she doubled through the left side.

Along with Heimburg’s hit, Mariah Rimmer collected the first Lobo hit of the game, leading off the second with a single to left field. Jasmine Casados had the only other hit for the Lobos, a single to centerfield with one out in the fifth. Casados also drew a walk in the seventh.

McPherson took the loss in the circe, allowing two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out one. She drops her record to 0-6 on the season. Soles had the only other strikeout of the game.

The Lobos drop to 12-27 on the season and 3-9 in the Mountain West. San José State improves to 23-16 overall and 6-3 in the conference. Next Weekend, the Lobos will return home for Easter action against UNLV. The first pitch will be at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 17.
