MALAYSIAN OPEN LEADERBOARD

In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, University of New Mexico junior golfer Gavin Green made the cut at the Maybank Malaysian Open on Friday.

And he’s probably angry he didn’t do more.

Green caught fire early, going 5 under par through his first nine holes at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club before coming back to Earth and settling with a 2-under 70 that left him at even-par 144 through 36 holes and a tie for 47th place.

Green trails Malaysian Open leader Lee Westwood by 13 strokes. Westwood, who finished seventh last week at the Masters at 1 under par, matched Green’s front-nine 31 on Friday and finished with a 6-under 66 to go with his 7-under 65 on Thursday.

His score of 131 is four strokes better Nicolas Colsaerts and Antonio Lascuna.

For the second consecutive day, Green got off to a fast start. After birdieing the first hole, Green eagled the par-5 fifth hole and added birdies on Nos. 6 and 8. His second nine holes consisted of two birdies, three pars, three bogeys and a double-bogey on the 13th hole that cooled down his round.

Green will tee off at 8:40 a.m. Malaysia time Saturday with South Africa’s Bryce Easton and Denmark’s J.B. Hansen.
