ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico juniors Gavin Green and Victor Perez have earned PING All-West Region honors, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Wednesday.
It’s the second year both players have earned the award.
Green, a native of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was the Mountain West Player of the Year in 2013-14 after winning the conference individual title earlier this month. He tied a school record with four individual tournament wins this past season – and has tied the UNM record for career wins with five all-time.
Green also had the sixth-best individual season in terms of scoring average at UNM with a 71.24 strokes per round mark in 2013-2014. His career average of 72.27 strokes per round ranks third in school history.
Perez is a three-time All-Mountain West selection and two-time Academic All-Mountain West selection who finished in the top 20 in nine of the 13 events he entered in 2013-14. The Semeac, France, native finished 10th in the Palmer Cup Europe rankings, which annually ranks the top collegiate U.S. players born in Europe.
Perez is No. 5 on the UNM all-time strokes-per round average list at 72.47.
The inclusion of Green and Perez on the all-region team gives the Lobos six players to win the award in the last two years combined.
