ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico 2012-13 men’s golf team has been named to the 2013 All-Academic Team presented by Farmers Insurance, the Golf Coaches Association of America has announced.

The Lobos were one of 143 programs across the country, including all divisions, to have a team grade-point average of over 3.0. UNM finished the 2012-13 year with a team GPA of 3.28.

UNM, winners of the Mountain West Championship and the NCAA Columbus Regional Championship, advanced to the match-play portion of the NCAA Championships at the end of May and officially finished tied for fifth in the event.

The Lobos joined California, Georgia Tech and Illinois as the only teams in the country to advance to the final eight of the NCAA championships and make the All-Academic Team.

Last month, graduating seniors Benjamin Bauch and John Catlin earned Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar honors.

Bauch, Catlin and rising junior Victor Perez each earned Academic All-Mountain West honors in the spring, and Bauch, Catlin and fellow departing senior Ryan Barry earned Mountain West Scholar-Athlete awards for the 2012-13 season.

UNM opens the 2013-14 season Sept. 8-9 at the Gopher Invitational in Independence, Minn.
