2013-14 (Freshman Season)

After posting a 7-4 singles record in the fall tournament season and 17-8 singles record in the regular season, Sabatka completed the 2013-14 season with an overall singles record of 24-12. His seventeen victories are tied for the most regular season wins during the season. James Hignett also had seventeen. Sabtaka competed primarily in the No. 2 position during the regular season.

Sabatka also posted a winning doubles record for the 2013-14 season. He finished the year with a 17-12 record. He competed mainly with teammates Rodolfo Jauregui and Andrew Van Der Vyver.

Sabatka’s impressive first year as a Lobo earned him the Mountain West Male Freshman of the Year award for 2014. He was also named to the 2014 All-Conference team in singles. Sabatka and teammate Samir Ifitkhar were the only Lobos to earn the award for singles play.

He completed the 2014 MW Championships with two unfinished singles matches and one loss. Sabatka also recorded two unfinished matches and one loss in doubles play at the tournament with Jauregui.

Sabatkafinished the season ranked 9th in the ITA Mountain Region singles rankings. He was one of two Lobos to earn a regional singles ranking. Sabatka and Jauregui completed the season ranked 10th in the Mountain Region doubles rankings.

Sabatka also received plenty of recognition for his academic success during the 2013-14 season. He was named to the 2014 Academic All-Conference team and was also honored a 2014 MW Scholar-Athlete. Sabatka was also named a 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete.

Prior to UNM

Hayden Sabatka is a graduate of the Insight School of Colorado. He claimed the Class 5A No. 1 singles state title during his junior and senior year (2011 and 2012) of high school. Sabatka went his entire junior and senior year without losing a single match. He finished in third place in the state championship during his freshman and sophomore year. Sabatka was named the Denver Post Player of the Year in 2011 and 2012. He was also named to the Colorado Community Media All-Star tennis team in singles in 2012. His four year high school-tennis record is 82 wins, 3 losses. Sabatka's best national ranking in the USTA 18's category was 41 and he was ranked No. 1 the entire year in the Intermountain Section. The Tennis Recruiting Network ranked Sabatka at No. 35 in the nation in recruit rankings and also honored him as a five star recruit.

Personal

Sabatka is from Denver, Colo. He is the son of Darrell and Cathy Sabatka and the younger brother of Heather and Holly Sabatka. His mother, Cathy, played volleyball at Utah State University and his grandfather was an All-American tennis player at the Universtiy of Oklahoma. 

When he's not playing tennis, Sabatka enjoys playing ping-pong and hanging out with his friends.
