Lobos End Regular Season With 6-1 Victory Over Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.-- It was a clear, crisp afternoon and it was perfect for the Lobos as they closed out the regular season with a 6-1 win on the road over the Air Force Academy. The Lobos finish the season 12-12 overall and 3-3 in conference play and will prepare for the Mountain West Tournament on April 25-28, 2013 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

After losing a tough doubles point, losing at numbers two and three, the Lobos raced out of the gates in singles winning five of the first six sets against the Falcons.

Senior Conor Berg clinched the Lobos fourth point with a 6-3, 6-4 at number two over Steven Young. Setting the table for the Berg clinch was senior Jadon Phillips defeating Lance Wilhelm in straight sets at number one. Freshman Andrew Van Der Vyver also won in straight sets at number five.

First off the court for the Lobos tying the score 1-1 was Sophomore Sam Iftikhar winning handily 6-2, 6-3 at number three.

Winning the dead rubbers, at four and six respectively, to push the final score to 6-1 for the Lobos was redshirt sophomore Mitch McDaniels and junior Mads Hegelund.

The Lobos finish 3-3 in conference play and 12-12 overall. This matchup ends the Lobos regular season as they prepare for the Mountain West Tournament on April 25-28, 2013.
