ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The academic awards continue to roll in for the University of New Mexico men’s tennis team.

The Lobos were named a 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team as announced by the ITA on Thursday. UNM and Utah State were the only Mountain West Conference schools that received the honor.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).

The Lobos also had five players named 2014 ITA Scholar-Athletes for their individual success in the classroom. Bryan Cunningham, Mads Hegelund, James Hignett, Samir Iftikhar, and Hayden Sabatka were all recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes for maintaining a minimum 3.5 GPA throughout the season.

UNM had more ITA Scholar-Athletes than any other school in the conference.

The Lobos, who finished in second place in the conference for the 2014 season, had a successful year on and off the tennis courts.
