COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - The action on the men's side began this morning as No. 4 New Mexico took down No. 5 Fresno State 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Tournament. New Mexico will play No. 1 San Diego State (18-7) in Saturday's semifinals at 2 p.m. MT.

The No. 66 Lobos seized the doubles point quickly at the numbers one and two spot with a score of 8-3.

Once doubles had finished and the Lobos secured the momentum in their favor, it was onto singles.

Andrew Van Der Vyver took the first point for the Lobos at the number six spot winning 6-0, 6-1 over his opponent.

Jadon Phillips was the second off the court putting the Lobos up 3-1 with his win at number one singles 6-1, 6-1.

Fresno State answered back with a win at number four over Mitch McDaniels 6-2, 7-5 to put the Bulldogs up on the board.

The fourth to finish was Samir Iftikhar with the clinch win at the number three spot with a score of 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).

The Lobos defeated their opponent with a score of 4-1 advancing them to the semifinals.

After the win, the All-Mountain West Teams were announced. Phillips was named to All-Conference singles making him the only four-time named honoree on the 2012-13 All-Mountain West Team. To date, Phillips has won almost every major Mountain West Conference award possible including Freshman of the year along with four All-Conference singles and three All-Conference doubles award.

Berg and Iftikhar were also named to the All-Mountain West Team for their first time in singles and Berg’s third time in doubles. Berg has won three All-Conference in doubles each time with a different partner. Berg’s partner, Van Der Vyver was also named to the All-Conference team in doubles for the first time in his career.

The Lobos will advance to the semifinals to face No. 1 San Diego State (18-7) at 2 p.m. MT on Saturday. The Bulldogs end their season at 7-17.
