ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Playing without senior Jadon Phillips, the Lobos were shorthanded for a ranked opponent on the road in consecutive weeks. In cold, blustery conditions, the Lobos fell 7-0 to #24 Tulsa.
Tulsa came out firing on all cylinders and took the doubles point winning at all three positions.
The Golden Hurricanes carried the momentum from the doubles point into singles winning five out of the first six sets. Senior Conor Berg was the only Lobo able to win the first set at the number two position. His opponent, #35 Japie De Klerk, battled back to take the next two sets for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win.
Tulsa, the Lobos 14th ranked opponent this season, proved to be too tough today on their home courts. UNM will look to bounce back at home next weekend as the Lobos face conference opponents UNLV and Fresno State. The Lobos will face their 15th ranked opponent and renew an old rivalry with Fresno State.
