BOISE, IDAHO - The Lobos ran into a blue and orange buzz saw falling 7-0 on the Boise State Broncos' home courts.

Before the doubles point started, the Lobos knew they would be without junior Mitch McDaniels but didn't know until minutes before the match a knee injury would sideline Mads Hegelund for the day.

Without McDaniels and Hegelund, the Lobos made the doubles point interesting but were a bit overmatched on the day in singles.

The Broncos snuck out a tough doubles point winning at numbers one and two 9-7. The number three spot saw Samir Iftikhar and Berg, who was still battling the flu, fight and scrap their way to an 8-6 win.

After the doubles point, senior Conor Berg was unable to continue to singles and the Lobos made adjustments accordingly.

As for singles, the Broncos slammed the door shut on the Lobos early. Simon Hegelund gamely filled in as a last minute sub for his brother but went down 6-1, 6-1.

James Hignett playing at five, played well in the second set using intelligent tactics to get his opponent off balance to create opportunities but eventually fell 6-0, 7-5.

Jadon Phillips, battling severe tendinitis in his knee, gave everything he had to put himself in position to take the first set. However, his opponent held his nerve, fended off five set points and converted on his own set point to take the set 7-6.

The match was on serve in the second. With the team match already concluded, the coaching staff decided it was best to end the match with a retire to avoid a more serious injury to Phillip's knee.

The second half of the season is underway, and the Lobos are now going to take a few days off to get over the flu, and heal their bodies.

UNM will hit the road again next Monday to face top 20 Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla. The match will mark the last non-conference match of the regular season for the Lobos and their fourteenth ranked opponent since the start of the season.
