ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team finished day two of the Aggie Invitational with one Lobo still in the running for a championship title.

Lobo freshman Rodolfo Jauregui landed a spot in the championship match of the Crimson Singles bracket after he defeated New Mexico State’s Germain Degardin, 7-6, 7-5, on Saturday morning. Jauregui was the only UNM competitor to make it to the finals.

“I’m happy for Rodolfo. He’s showing a really good command of his game right now,” said associate head coach Bart Scott. “He’s changing up the pace and staying really focused.”

Bryan Cunningham came up short against Trevor James of the University of Arizona, 6-2, 7-6. Tanner Berkabile was also defeated in his semi-finals match. Berkabile lost to Northern Arizona’s Jordan Gobatie, 6-3, 6-0.

All four Lobos were defeated in doubles play. Two different duos from Arizona Christian defeated UNM’s two doubles teams in the Crimson Doubles bracket.

“We struggled a little bit in doubles again,” said Scott. “They just didn’t take care of the basic stuff that they are normally very solid at.”

Jauregui will face NMSU’s Liam Goldberg in the championship match on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. (MTN).
