ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Samir Iftikhar’s time at the 2013 Saint Francis ITA All-American Championship came to an end on Tuesday afternoon after he came up short against the University of North Carolina’s Ronnie Schneider, 7-6, 6-4.

Iftikhar battled through two long sets against the freshman from UNC. Schneider is a strong competitor who was ranked as a No. 1 recruit and has several ranked wins on his record.

“He came out aggressively with a very aggressive mindset and executed well, so credit to him for that,” said Iftikhar. “I can definitely take a couple of things from this experience to improve on, so I’m looking forward to getting back to Albuquerque to get back to work.”

Iftikhar was the only Lobo from the men’s tennis team that qualified for the ITA All-American Championship.

“Very happy about the way Sam competed in this event. As usual he fights until the end,” said associated head coach Bart Scott. “We’ll get back to work and be ready for our next opportunity.”
