ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team returns to action this weekend when they take on their in-state rival New Mexico State. The sixty-second ranked Lobos (15-6) will square off against the Aggies (8-7) on Saturday afternoon at the NMSU Tennis Center.
UNM recently returned from a big trip at Georgia State where they split a pair of matches defeating No. 71 GSU and losing to No. 39 Drake. The Lobos’ success over the weekend helped them move from sixty-seven to sixty-two in the ITA team rankings. UNM is hoping that their recent momentum can carry over into their match against the unranked Aggies.
The Lobos have defeated the Aggies in the last three meetings between the two teams. Aggie head coach Carlos Vargas is bringing in a strong 11-member lineup to try and put a stop to the Lobos’ win streak. The NMSU roster includes ten international players and one Las Cruces native.
This won’t be the first time that two teams match up this year. Bryan Cunningham, Rodolfo Jauregui, Tanner Berkabile, and Andrew Van Der Vyver competed in the 2013 Aggie Invitational that NMSU hosted in September. The Lobos finished the tournament with an impressive record of 12-4, but did not claim any tournament titles.
The match starts at 1 p.m. MT on Saturday.
There is no live scoring available for this event. Full results will be posted on golobos.com at the end of the match.
