ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Lobos remain undefeated in doubles play as they wrap up their third day at the 2013 USTA/ITA Mountain Regionals at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
Dominique Dulski, Lizette Blankers, Misa Bezdickova, and Natasha Smith continue to battle their way through doubles play at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The University of New Mexico is going into day four of the ITA Mountain Regionals with a 6-0 record in doubles. All four Lobos will be competing in the fourth round of the 64 Draw Doubles bracket on Saturday morning.
“I was really proud of the effort and focus of both doubles teams today,” head coach Erica Jasper said. “We came out ready to play and determined to play our brand of doubles from the first point, which was huge.”
Singles play came to an end for the Lobos on Friday afternoon. Dulski and Smith were both defeated in the third round of the 128 Singles Draw, but Blankers advanced to the fourth round. She came up short against the No. 1 seed from UNLV, Aleksandra Josifoska, 6-1, 6-2.
“In singles, we battled hard but unfortunately came up short on the day,” Jasper said. “Lizette Blankers had a great run and definitely played some great tennis today. Dominique Dulski was playing great singles until she went down with an injury. Hopefully with some rest and ice, she can give doubles a try tomorrow.”
Regional play will start back up on Saturday morning.
“We have two very tough matches tomorrow, so we’ll have to be even better with our decision making and execution to put ourselves in position to win,” Jasper said.
