ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Emily Olivier will be representing the University of New Mexico on the final day of the 2013 Lobo Fall Invite as she competes in the championship match of the Silver Singles Bracket on Sunday, Nov. 3.

Olivier is the only Lobo still in the running for a championship title. She earned a spot in the final match after defeating the University of Colorado’s Winde Janssens in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon, (6-1, 6-1). This would be Olivier’s first tournament title of her college career.

“In singles Emily Olivier really stepped up and played smart aggressive tennis,” head coach Erica Jasper said. “As a team we were much more willing to work the point and play smart and that definitely helped us results-wise."

Unfortunately, teammates Rachana Bhat and Madison Porter will not be advancing to the final round. Both Lobo competitors lost in the singles semifinals and will each battle for a third place title on Sunday.

Lizette Blankers will represent the Lobos in the consolation finals match.  She advanced after picking up a victory in the back draw of her bracket on Saturday. She is currently working towards a fifth place title. Lobo Susan Baklini will also be competing for a fifth place title on Sunday. Baklini ended the second day of the tournament with two big wins. She defeated Texas Tech’s Claire Williams in the Black Singles Bracket and then went on to defeat Grand Canyon’s Frederique Van de Velde in an extra match directly after her first victory.

Misa Bezdickova struggled on day two of the Lobo Invite. She lost to the University of Texas-El Paso’s Rebeca Calvillo in the back draw of the Cherry Bracket and will play for seventh place on Sunday.

The Lobos did not claim any championship titles in the doubles category on Saturday. Bezdickova and Blankers battled GCU’s Frederique Van de Velde and Janaki Gunuganti, but couldn’t pull of the win in the Cherry semifinals. The duo went on to pick up a second loss on Saturday. Calvillo and Davina Mesa of UTEP defeated Blankers and Bezdickova, 8-7 (5), in the match-up for third place.

Olivier and Baklini also came up short in the semifinals after a hard-fought battle against CU’s Carla Manzi and Alex Aiello. The UNM duo did however claim the third place title after a win over TTU.

Bhat and Porter took home a win the consolation finals match after bypassing the semifinals with a bye. They defeated Northern Arizona’s Jordan Denesick and Sarah Spruch, 8-7. (1).

"Overall we were better today,” Jasper said. “Our preparation and management of details made us much more competitive across the board. I was still disappointed with our doubles results. We did a great job in all our matches setting things up, however we need to continue to work of finishing our opportunities.”

The final day of the 2013 Lobo Fall Invite will kick off at 9:00 a.m. (MTN) on Sunday.
