Women’s Tennis Hosts Back-to-Back Doubleheaders

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico’s women’s tennis team will face four teams in the span of three days as they host back-to-back doubleheaders at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex. The first doubleheader is on Fri., Jan. 31 and the second doubleheader will be played on Sun., Feb. 2.

New Mexico (1-1) kicks-off its doubleheader weekend with a match against Grand Canyon at 9 a.m on Fri. A match against CSU-Pueblo will follow it at 1 p.m. The Lobos then host Northern Arizona at 10:00 a.m. on Sun., followed by a match against Western New Mexico at 5:00 p.m.

The Lobos are currently undefeated against WNMU (3-0) and GCU (5-0) and hold a winning 15-3 record against NAU. This will be the first time in program history that UNM faces CSU-Pueblo.

These weekend events will be UNM’s first home matches of the season.

Results will be posted on golobos.com and www.facebook.com/UNM.Women.Tennis at the end of each match.

Admission into Linda Estes Tennis Complex is free.

UNM vs. Grand Canyon:

Head Coach: Gregory Prudhomme

Conference: Western Athletic Conference

Last Regular Season Meeting: The Lobos last match against the Antelopes was on Feb. 2, 2013. UNM won, 7-0.

(The Lobos faced off against a few Antelope opponents at the Aggie Invitational and the Balloon Fiesta Invite during fall 2013 tournament season.)

Quick Fact: Head Coach Prudhomme is the coach of the men’s and women’s tennis teams at GCU.

 

UNM vs. CSU-Pueblo:

Head Coach: Mark Schleif

Conference: Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference

Last Regular Season Meeting: The Lobos have never matched up against the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves.

Quick Fact: This is only CSU-Pueblos third year having a tennis team. The team has a six-member lineup.

 

UNM vs. Northern Arizona:

Head Coach: Kim Bruno

Conference: Big Sky Athletic Conference

Last Regular Season Meeting: The Lobos last faced off against the Lumberjacks on Feb. 16, 2013. UNM lost, 5-2. 

(The Lobos faced off against a few Lumberjack opponents at the Aggie Invitational, the Wildcat Invite, and the Balloon Fiesta Invite during fall 2013 tournament season.)

Quick Fact: The Lobos have not defeated the Lumberjacks since 2011.

 

UNM vs. Western New Mexico:

Head Coach: Yair Banuelos

Conference: Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference

Last Regular Season Meeting: The Lobos last faced off against the Mustangs on Feb. 2, 2013. UNM won, 7-0.

Quick Fact: The Mustangs finished first in their conference last season.
