ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The University of New Mexico women's tennis team welcomes Sharon Coone and Dalina Dahlmans who have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Lobos for the 2014-15 season.
Coone is coming to UNM from Sint Jansteen, Netherlands where she is graduating from RSG’t Rijks Bergen op Zoom.
The Netherlands native has been ranked has high as 6th in her country (U16) in 2013 and as high as 140th in Senior Dutch rankings. She is currently ranked 150th in Senior Dutch rankings. Other notable accomplishments include taking 2nd place at Winter Jeugd Circuit in Holland and being named distract champion four years in a row.
Coone currently competes at the LTC de zoom at Bergen op Zoom and at OTC Warande and is privately coached by Gillis van de Gruiter.
"We are really excited Sharon has decided to be a Lobo,” interim head coach Kelcy McKenna said. “She has had quite a bit of success on the Junior Circuit in the Netherlands and at only 16 years old, she is starting to progress in the Women's rankings. Sharon has a great, bubbly personality and will fit in very well with our team!"
Dahlmans will travel to UNM from Hillensberg, Germany where she currently attends Bischöfliches Gymnasium St. Ursula Geilenkirchen.
Dahlmans has been ranked as high as 119th in the Senior Dutch rankings. She is currently ranked in both singles and doubles in the Dutch rankings, coming in at No. 129 in singles and No. 99 in doubles. She is currently competing at the GTR Geleen Tennis Club and is privately coached by Pascal Wilkat.
"We got to know Dalina fairly late in the recruiting process, so we are very excited that she will be joining us next fall. A lefty with a big game, Dalina should thrive in the fast conditions, and we are excited to see how she develops over her career as a Lobo."
