Albuquerque, N.M. – Two members of the University of New Mexico’s women’s tennis program earned recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association who announced their preseason ranked players and pre-qualifiers for the ITA All-American team on Friday, Sept. 6.
Senior Michaela Bezdickova has been ranked 123rd in the 2013 ITA Division I Singles preseason rankings. These national rankings select the top 125 singles competitors from every D-1 school in the country. Bezdickova led the Lobos last season as she ended the year with an 18-7 overall record.
Additionally, Bezdickova has been selected to compete in the Pre-qualifying Singles Draw at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. The All-American Singles Draw will showcase talent from only the best of the best in women’s college tennis.
Junior Natasha Smith also received recognition from the ITA as she was selected to compete in the Pre-Qualifying Doubles Draw with teammate Bezdickova. This is Smith’s first season with the Lobos as she recently transferred from the University of Utah. Smith is a very experienced player who will make a highly skilled duo with Bezdickova.
The Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships will be held from Sept. 28- Oct. 6 at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The Riviera Tennis Club has hosted the event for the last 29 years.
The Lobos kick off their new season Sept. 13 at the New Mexico State Fall Invitational. Preseason honors are a great start to the Lobo’s 2013-14 season.
