FRESNO, Calif. – The second-seeded New Mexico women’s tennis team will face the Nevada Wolf Pack in their first match of the 2014 Mountain West Championships. The two opponents will square off at 2 p.m. PT at the Sierra Sport and Racquet Club.

Last season, the Lobos dropped to Colorado State in the first round of the conference tournament. This year, the 15-7, 4-1 Lobos earned the second overall seed and bypassed the first day of matches.

The No. 7 seed Wolf Pack rightfully earned their spot in the second round after defeating Utah State 4-0 on Wednesday. Friday’s match will be the first meeting between the Lobos and the Wolf Pack this season.

Head coach Guillaume Tonelli is bringing in a seven-member lineup with three upperclassmen. UNR finished the regular season with an overall record of 11-9 including three conference losses.

The young Lobo pack will be coached through the championships by interim head coach Kelcy McKenna and Deputy AD Tim Cass due to the arrival of head coach Erica Jasper’s baby.
