Smith Claims ITA Summer Circuit Singles Championship

BOULDER, Colo. – New Mexico’s Natasha Smith claimed the women’s singles championship title at the ITA Summer Circuit Event hosted by the University of Colorado over the weekend.

Smith defeated four different opponents in order to claim the title and won every match in only two sets. After having a bye for the first round, Smith rallied past second-seeded Alex Aiello, third-seeded Marjorie Antohi, Kathleen Kuosman, and eventually defeated Meghan Monaghan in the finals, 6-4, 6-1. Monaghan currently plays for Southern Illinois.

Lobos Susan Baklini, Madison Porter, and Emily Olivier also competed in the CU portion of the ITA Summer Circuit. Baklini and Porter fell in their first singles match of the weekend. Monaghan defeated Olivier in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-4.

CU was the second stop of the Mountain portion of the Summer Circuit. UNM hosted the event on June 28-30, while the University of Denver will host July 19-21.
