LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of New Mexico is receiving votes for the second time in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll. The Lobos received a total of five votes that was announced Monday afternoon. The last poll, which was the preseason poll, had the Lobos receiving nine votes.
The Lobos went 2-1 this last weekend at the Lobo Classic. They started out with a sweep of Seattle U on Friday afternoon before falling, in a tough match, to No. 2 Texas. After the tough loss, the Lobos bounced back and put together their second sweep of the season over UTEP on Saturday.
Four of the Lobos’ 2014 opponents are still in the AVCA poll. Texas dropped to No. 3 in the nation and Hawai’I dropped to No. 20. Colorado State moved up to No. 13 after wins over VCU, UC Santa Barbara and Marquette. The other top ranked opponent, Oregon, moved out of the receiving votes category and into the top 25, coming in at No. 22.
The Lobos are traveling to Honolulu, Hawaii this week. They will play matches against No. 20 Hawai’i on Thursday at 11:30 p.m. MT. That match will be available on the web here. The Lobos will play St. John’s on Friday at 9p.m. MT and No. 22 Oregon on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Both of those matches will be available via live stats at GoLobos.com.
