ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Former Lobo pitcher Steve Smith has spent the past five seasons in the Los Angeles Dodgers minor league system, reaching as high as Triple-A in 2013. This winter he is pitching in the Liga de Beisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente in Puerto Rico for the Indios de Mayaguez, which qualified for the Caribbean Series after defeating Caguas four-games-to-two in the playoffs.

Smith led the entire league in wins after going 6-0 with a 2.45 ERA in 19 games spanning 25.2 innings. He struck out 17 and walked only five while allowing just seven runs all season.

The Caribbean Series pits the champions of five winter leagues throughout Latin America: Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba, the Domincan Republic and Venezuela, the host of this year's tournament. You can follow all the action here.

Smith went 11-11 for the Lobos in 31 games, 29 starts, over two years. He struck out 129 batters in 180.2 innings. He was signed as a free agent with the Dodgers after the 2008 season. He owns a 20-17 career record and a 3.60 ERA in 199 games over six seasons in the minors.
