Haggerty Earns Academic All-District Honors

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Sam Haggerty earned Academic All-District honors CoSIDA announced Thursday. The sophomore middle infielder out of Denver, Colo., was named both Academic All-Mountain West and a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete last year. This was his first career Academic All-District honor as first-year players are not eligible.

Haggerty, who is majoring in finance, owns a 3.78 cumulative GPA and is having yet another superb season on the diamond. A Freshman All-American in 2013, Haggerty is batting .318 with a team-high 46 runs. He also leads the team in walks with 27 while batting at the top of the order all season. His 10 stolen bases are second on the team and his 152 assists in the field, playing both shortstop and second base, lead the Lobos by a wide margin.

District 7 encompasses all players from Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming. Haggerty is now eligible to be an Academic All-American. Voting for that award begins Tuesday, May 6.
