ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The summer of basketball continues for former Lobo forward Cameron Bairstow. After playing for the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Summer League that ended with a contract with that Bulls, Bairstow has been selected to the Australian National Team for the World Championships. The Boomers will participate in the FIBA World Championships in Spain in August.
“Excited to put on the green and gold at the 2014 FIBA world champs,” Bairstow tweeted after the national team announcement.
The native of Brisbane, Australia was selected with the 49th pick of the 2014 NBA Draft by Chicago, and made his professional debut with the Bulls during summer league action in Las Vegas. He signed a multi-year contract with the Bulls last week.
“We like Cameron’s combination as a player with his size, energy and physicality,” said Chicago Bulls General Manager Gar Forman in a press release announcing the signing. “He is a hard worker who will only get better with time.”
This summer is not Bairstow’s first stint with the Australian Boomers. He helped Australia capture a silver medal in the World University Games last summer.
