The Lobos are not ranked in either poll, coming in 28th in the AP Poll (dropping to slots despite going 1-0 on the week) and 27th in the USA Today/Coaches Poll. San Diego State, on the strength of three wins in the Wooden Legacy Classic, jumped into the AP Poll at No. 24.

In the AP Poll, the Lobos had been ranked for 15 straight weeks, and now UNM has been ranked 19 times in the 22 weeks. Other UNM opponents in the AP Poll or receiving votes include Kansas at No. 6, UMass at No. 21, San Diego State at No. 24, with Boise State and Cincinnati receiving votes. In the USA Today/Coaches Poll, Kansas at No. 7, UMass at No. 22 with San Diego State, Boise State and Cincinnati receiving votes.

The Lobos have been ranked in the AP poll for 33 weeks this decade, which is tied the 26th most weeks in the country. In the western U.S., only three programs have spent more weeks ranked than the Lobos this decade; Arizona (37 weeks), San Diego State (44 weeks) and Gonzaga (51 weeks).

The Lobos have been ranked in four of the last five seasons. Prior to this run, the last time UNM had been ranked was at the end of the 1999 season, when the Lobos were ranked 25th and lost to eventual national champion Connecticut 78-56 in Denver.

The Lobos are 184-74 as a ranked team. New Mexico is 123-8 at home when ranked, 42-51 on the road when ranked, and 19-15 neutral.
