ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Former University of New Mexico center Alex Kirk has signed a contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA. Kirk, who averaged 13.3 points and 8.7 rebounds as a junior last season for the Lobos, played in this year’s Las Vegas Summer League with the Cavs.

Kirk joins former teammates Cameron Bairstow and Kendall Williams as Lobos from the 2013-14 roster to sign professional contracts. Bairstow signed with the Chicago Bulls while Williams signed with Vuelle Basket Pesaro in the Italian A League.

Kirk was two-time All-Mountain West and MW All-Defensive Team selection during his career. The seven footer was also a NABC Second Team All-District honoree last season for UNM. He left the Lobos after earning his degree in Marketing in May and tallied 1,010 points, 685 rebounds and 168 blocks during his New Mexico career.

The native New Mexican was honored by his hometown of Los Alamos, N.M. with “Alex Kirk Day” earlier this summer.
