Colorado Springs, Colo. --- UNM's fantastic 2012-13 season on the court got some solid validation off the court as Hugh Greenwood, Cameron Bairstow and Alex Kirk were all named to the Mountain West All-Academic squad. The three were part of UNM's league-high 111 honorees for the spring semester, and league-high 163 overall.
Greenwood, Bairstow and Kirk combined this past season for 87 starts as the trio ranked third, fourth, and fifth in scoring on the squad. The Lobos were the only Mountain West basketball team to have three starters named All-Academic, and the three overall ranked third behind Wyoming and UNLV, who each had four players on the team.
Kirk was third on the team in scoring, averaging 12.1 points, and he led the team in rebounding at 8.1 per game. Bairstow, who ranked fourth in scoring at 9.7 points per game, was second to Kirk in rebounding at 5.9 per game.
Greenwood was fifth in scoring at 7.0 points per game and third in rebounding at 5.0 per game, and he added a team-best 47 steals.
The last time the Lobos had more than three MW All-Academic was in 2010-11, when four were selected. The three is tied for the third-best total in UNM's Mountain West history.
New Mexico went 29-6 in 2012-13, advancing to its third NCAA Tournament in the last four seasons, and winning both the regular season and conference tournament titles. UNM is one of only five teams that has won back-to-back regular season and conference tournament titles. The Lobos also join Kansas and Gonzaga as the only teams that have won at least four regular season titles in the last five years.
