COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of New Mexico senior guard Sara Halasz has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week for the first time in her career. Halasz averaged 20.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game in a pair of wins for the Lobos last week in The Pit.

Her week was highlighted by her first ever 20-point, 10-rebound performance in UNM's 80-68 victory over San Jose State. She finished with 23 points, 14 rebounds and two assists. The 14 rebounds were a career high, and her 23 points were one shy of tying another career high. The San Jose State performance was her second double-double of the season and third of her career.

Halasz averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds for the week while shooting a scorching 16-of-28 (57.1 percent) from the field for the week. The red-hot shooting percentage was surpassed by her performance at the charity stripe. Halasz converted six of her seven attempts (85.7 percent) in the two games, which included a pair of crucial free throws in the final minute against San Jose State.

Halasz is among the top three on the team in scoring, rebounding and steals this season. The senior has played in 45 consecutive games after missing the entire 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons due to injuries. She is 83 points shy of becoming the 18th member in program history to reach 1,000 career points.

The weekly award marks the second time this season a Lobo has been named MW Player of the Week. Antiesha Brown earned the honor in the first week of the season after tallying 28 points and 11 rebounds in New Mexico’s season-opening win over Loyola Marymount. It is also the first time since 2010-11 that two Lobos have been named MW Player of the Week in the same season.

Halasz and the rest of the Lobos travel to UNLV for a Wednesday evening matchup before returning home on Saturday for their annual “Pack the Pit” game vs. Fresno State at 2 p.m. (MST) in The Pit.
