ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s basketball program and head coach Yvonne Sanchez have announced the signing of Laneah Bryan to a national letter of intent. Bryan, a 5-foot-6-inch guard from Franklin High School in El Paso, Texas will join the Lobos for the 2014-15 season. She will join fellow signees Tori Henderson, Jayda Bovero and Kenya Pye who committed to the program back in November.

“We are excited to welcome Laneah to the Lobo Family.  She is from Albuquerque, and understands what it means to put on the Lobo Jersey,” said head coach Yvonne Sanchez. “Laneah works extremely hard, knows how to win, understands the game and will do whatever it takes to help the team win.  She had a terrific senior year, and we are very fortunate to be able to sign her in the late period.  We feel she can help at the perimeter position right away, especially at the point guard position.”

The point guard is not new to the city of Albuquerque after playing for Volcano Vista High School for her first two prep seasons and helping the Hawks take home a 5A state championship as a sophomore. Bryan was a second team All-State selection before transferring to Franklin High in El Paso for her junior and senior seasons.

Her decorated career continued at Franklin High School where she was the two-time El Paso Times Player of the Year in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Bryan averaged 20.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.5 steals per game en route to a 20-win season and a district title for the Cougars last season.

The 2014-15 Lobos will return twelve players, which include All-Mountain West Honorable Mention selection Antiesha Brown. Coach Sanchez’s returners account for over 70.0% of the team’s points, rebound and assists from last season.
