OVERLAND PARK, KS - New Mexico men's soccer senior Kyle Venter has been selected as a candidate for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award. Venter is one of thirty NCAA Division I men's soccer student-athletes nominated for this national recognition.

The Senior CLASS Award is based off an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. The honor focuses on individuals who truly embrace and represent the student-athlete experience. The award also recognizes those who use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Kyle Venter, a senior from Aurora, Colo., is a two-time All-American. He was also a NSCAA Scholar All-American last season. Venter has also earned NSCAA All-Region, All-MPSF and Academic All-Conference honors throughout his career.

It's been a busy summer so far for the center back. He was named to the prestigious 2013 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List yesterday while also garnering Conference USA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and Preseason All-American honors during the summer.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed down to ten finalists during the season. The winners will be announced during the 2012 NCAA College Cup in early December.

Venter and the rest of the Lobos have two remaining exhibitions at Air Force and at Denver this week. New Mexico's 2013 season will officially begin on Friday, August 30 at 7 p.m. when Villanova pays a visit to the UNM Soccer Complex.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award honors the attributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. The award program is designed exclusively for college seniors who are utilizing their complete athletic eligibility, remaining committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards a senior season can bring. Premier Sports Management manages the award.
