#11 New Mexico - 0 Air Force-2 (Exhibition)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The eleventh-ranked University of New Mexico Lobos faced their fair share of adversity in their exhibition at Air Force. Exhibitions are opportunities for young and new guys to get some playing time. The Lobos rested a handful of returners for the match, including Kyle Venter, Michael Calderon and Michael Kafari. On top of that there was a weather delay and a change of venue due to severe thunderstorms surrounding the Academy. The match was moved to Air Force's nearby indoor practice facility.

Once inside the Falcons and Lobos began the match with a rhythm very similar to the tempo of their previous match-ups. The game was scoreless after one half despite UNM holding a 4-1 shot advantage with Rene Reyes and James Wypych forcing saves by the Air Force goalkeeper.

Air Force drew first blood when Blake Elder scored from outside the box 19 minutes into the second half. New Mexico upped the tempo and got looks at the goal, but their shots would sail just wide. The Falcons got a second goal from Matt Payne minutes later to push their advantage to two goals.

The Lobos again found feet in the attack, but Riley McGovern would miss just a bit high on his counter attack. UNM would not go down without a fight as they continued to press and keep the game in Air Force's half in the final minutes, but the Lobos would not find the back of the net.

Scoring Summary:

Air Force: Blake Elder (64:00)

Air Force: Matt Payne (80:00)

Lineups:

New Mexico starters: Lisch (GK), Fisher, Gurule, Rochowski, Gibbons, McKendry, Mora Delgado, Rogers, Dye, Hansen and Wypych

Halftime substitutes: Poblete (GK)

Second half substitutes: Joe Harris

DNP: Wehan, Calderon, Venter, Miele, Kafari, Schneebeck, Armstrong, Klepac and Seligman

Notes:

• The Lobos and Falcons are long-time rivals during their Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tenures. After years of playing one another twice a year, the two teams will not meet during the regular season. New Mexico begins play in Conference USA while Air Force has moved to the WAC.

• Thursday marked the second time in a year that New Mexico has faced inclimate weather that has forced a venue change. The Lobos' conference opener last season at Houston Baptist was pushed back a day and moved to a different venue after the Huskies' field was deemed unplayable due to torrential rains.
