ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico senior midfielder Michael Calderon has been named to College Soccer News’ and TopDrawerSoccer's National Teams of the Week for the first time in his career. Calderon’s award comes on the heels of his two-goal, one-assist performance in the Lobos’ 7-2 win over Villanova to open the 2013 season.

The Costa Rican follows in the footsteps of former Lobo Devon Sandoval who earned the honor on four separate occasions last season. James Rogers, Kyle Venter and Victor Rodriguez also earned weekly honors from TopDrawerSoccer last season.

It was just two games prior, during the 2012 NCAA Tournament, where Calderon also recorded two goals and an assist versus Virginia. He became only the second Lobo to tally five points in a NCAA Tournament match.

Calderon wasn’t the only Lobo to find the back of the net twice on Friday night against the Wildcats. Junior James Rogers and freshman Niko Hansen also scored two goals apiece.

New Mexico will take to the road for a pair of matches against ranked foes this week. The Lobos will play at #24 VCU on Friday, September 6 at 7 p.m. at SportsBackers stadium in Richmond, Virginia. The Cherry & Silver will then play at third ranked, and 2012 national runner-up, Georgetown on Sunday afternoon.
