ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico Men’s Soccer’s James Rogers and Kyle Venter have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District team. The award, voted on by sports information directors across the region, is given to student-athletes who exemplify excellence on and off the field. Student-athletes must have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average and participation in at least half of their team's matches.
Junior forward James Rogers is second on the team in scoring with five goals and four assists, which puts him in the top ten in Conference USA as well. Rogers received academic all-district and all-conference honors last season as well.
Colorado native Kyle Venter continues to amass the academic awards in his Lobo career. Venter earned NSCAA Scholar All-America honors last season and has garnered back-to-back academic all-conference awards as well. The two-time All-American on the pitch is also steadily ascending the program’s record book in career appearances and minutes played. He was voted the Preseason Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year earlier this season.
The pair marks the tenth time in the last eleven seasons that the program has yielded multiple award winners. Since the 2003 season, Coach Fishbein and the Lobos have received academic all-district honors on 41 separate occasions. Rogers and Venter will now be eligible to receive Capital One’s Academic All-America honors.
