KANSAS CITY, Kan. – University of New Mexico men’s soccer senior Kyle Venter has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy, which is the highest individual award in college soccer. Venter’s nomination gives the Lobo Soccer program its fourth MAC Hermann semifinalist since 2005.

The center back has already cemented his place in New Mexico soccer history. The two-time All-American recently became the program’s all-time career minutes played leader as he eclipsed the 7,700 minute barrier in the team’s win over Penn State in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Venter was the 2013 Conference USA Most Valuable Player and the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year as New Mexico clinched the regular season conference title in their first year in the league. The Aurora, Colorado native is a NSCAA Scholar All-American and has received academic all-conference honors in every season he has been eligible to do so. He has eight goals and four assists for his career from his defender position.

Jeff Rowland was the first Lobo ever to be named a MAC Hermann semifinalist in 2005 with Andrew Boyens becoming the second a year later. The most recent semifinalist was Devon Sandoval in 2012.
