New Mexico versus Charlotte
Friday, October 4 – 7 p.m. (MT) at the UNM Soccer Complex
The University of New Mexico Men’s Soccer team will host the Charlotte 49ers in their Conference USA home opener on Friday, October 4 at 7 p.m. The Lobos will host the 49ers in their first-ever C-USA home match at the UNM Soccer Complex. New Mexico is fresh off a 3-1 win at Marshall University in their conference opener Monday evening.
Friday night's match will debut a new partnership for Lobo Soccer. New Mexico would like to welcome you to "Local. Sustainable. UNM. It;s brought to you by Lobo Soccer alongside Sustainability and Community Engagement. "Local. Sustainable. UNM." supports UNM and greater Albuquerque water, food, health, housing and education initiatives. New Mexico and Charlotte join 100 NCAA college soccer teams supporting and raising awareness about sustainability this college soccer season.
Part of the awareness will include the reduction of paper usage in the match. Game programs will be available via smart phones and devices via GoLobos.com instead of in print.
East Coast Visitors
Charlotte is one of four east coast teams to pay a visit to the UNM Soccer Complex. Villanova visited Albuquerque in the season opener in August, and Florida International and Florida Atlantic are still to come to the Duke City.
Always On the Attack
New Mexico is known for their high-scoring attacking offense. The result of their style is they outshoot their opponents regularly. The Lobos have taken more shots than their opponents in every single match this season but one. Marshall and New Mexico were even on shots on Monday evening. UNM is 126-24-12 under Coach Fishbein when outshooting their opponent.
McKendry On a Roll
Sophomore Ben McKendry, the MPSF Newcomer of the Year in 2012, has found a bit of a scoring groove. The Canadian midfielder has scored in each of UNM’s last two matches. His recent scoring surge comes on the heels of his decorated freshman campaign, which saw him find the back of the net seven times.
Lisch Among the Leaders
With three clean sheets this season, goalkeeper Michael Lisch is tied for the conference lead in shutouts. He will look to record his second home shutout on Friday night versus the 49ers.
A Final Time Under the Friday Night Lights
Friday evening’s match with Charlotte will be the final Friday night match of the season. New Mexico remaining weekend matches will be played on Saturdays. Coach Fishbein and the Lobos also have one remaining mid-week home match. UNM will host UAB on Wednesday, October 30.
