OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – University of New Mexico Men’s Soccer senior Kyle Venter has been named one of ten finalists for the 2013 Men’s Soccer Senior CLASS Award. The prestigious national award is given to student-athletes who excel in the total student-athlete experience by demonstrating excellence in the community, classroom, in character and competition.
Kyle Venter, a defender, is a two-time All-American and the 2013 Conference USA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Throughout his career, he has amassed nearly every athletic and academic accolade. Those accolades include NSCAA Scholar All-American, Academic All-Conference Team member, First Team All-Conference and NSCAA and College Soccer News All-America honors.
Venter and his New Mexico teammates are currently 7-3-2 for the 2013 season. The Lobos are in first place in Conference USA with a conference mark of 3-0-1. Venter and the UNM defense have posted five shutouts this season, which leads the conference.
The New Mexico Lobos return to the pitch on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Cherry & Silver will host Florida Atlantic on Saturday afternoon at the UNM Soccer Complex.
